Hello,
Depending on the workload we have for our todo items, here is the
release plan for the 2009.1
25 Dec – Beta
8 Jan – RC
15 Jan – Release
And todo list;
* KDE
- Moving to 4.3.4 (done)
- 4.2 -> 4.3 update config merge (done but needs testing)
- Making Kaptan compatible with 4.3 (done but needs testing)
- Migration enhancements (Renan)
- Comparing Mesa strings and KDE composite manager strings (Fatih)
- KOSD support (Ozan)
* Kernel
We will switch to 2.6.31. Packages are ready in devel repository.
After 2.6.30 security and bugfixes are finished we will merge the
package to testing repo. (Ozan)
* Xorg
We will be testing 1.7.x series and if it seems to be beneficial we
will switch. There are mny bugfixes especially in the EXA area. Fatih
is working on the packages.
* GTK2
I am planning to switch to new stable release, which I have been
testing for more than a month. It seems many critical problems
(including annoying scroll problems) were fixed. New release is ABI
compatible with the old one.
If we update to new version, we need to be extra careful about GTK2
packages. If they are using a new symbol from the new package, don’t
forget to add dependency to the new version.
Burak ?
* Çal??an (Live)
We will release a Çal??an (Live) system with 2009.1. Our biggest
problem was the size of the CD on çal??an side, which we had a 820MB
image to go with. With Ozan’s addition of LZMA support to squashfs we
are now able to create 692MB çal??an. For other todo;
- X keyboard map setting (Fatih)
- Disabling KDE cache (Gökçen)
- Disabling low space warning in KDE (Gökçen)
- Disabling tty open warning in KDM (Gökçen)
* Multi flavour image
Instead of creating more than one image we are planning to make one
image that can be put into any media. With the help of latest changes
we are now able to burn he ISO image on both CD and DVD media.
Additionally, we want to make the same image available to be written
into USB sticks, SD cards etc. Most of the work is done for this.
To let the userspace apps figure out they are on a live system we were
depending on mudur=live* parameters. We are using a lock
file /var/run/pardus/livemedia for that now. We are switching to
root=LIVEMEDIA= style parameter in initrams. For the remaining work;
- initramfs, mudur, pardus-python, pardusman changes (Onur)
- Yal? HDD/CD detection (Mete, Onur)
Work is going on on the 2008->2009 update side. Upgrade-manager is
completed, we need to test it more and focus on package changes. We
need to test config changes in our packages, and also we need to factor
replaces and obsoletes package tags. Despite it is not blocker for
2009.1, I want the dist update be ready with the release of 2009.1
